Following a successful debut at Carnegie Hall, NYC-based Chinese-American composer & pianist Lionel Yu unleashes his breathtaking piano performance and unique musical style at Merkin Hall on April 3rd. Mr. Yu will perform his powerful original music, which New York Music Daily describes as “superhuman technique, crushing volleys of chords and catchy hooks.”
A composer of original music since age 11 and a student of classical piano for over 20 years, Yu has studied under the tutelage of great artists including Assaff Weisman, Peter Dugan, Jonathan Dawe and Judah Adashi. In 2016, he released his debut album, MUSICALSTORIES, which went on to be streamed over 1 million times on Spotify. He was also cited on Classic FM for his popular original sequel to Pachelbel’s Canon, “Pachelbel’s Nightmare.” Through his YouTube channel, MUSICALBASICS, Yu has garnered over 20 million combined views and over 70,000 fans around the world.
At Merkin Hall, Yu will be joined by legendary NYC beatboxer Amit to blend elements of Hip Hop with his own classical style, creating a musical experience unlike anything else.
